The new Jeopardy! graphics package

It blows.

Oh, all right, I'll be a little more detailed than that. It assaults my eyes. I'm mainly thinking of two things:

First is the ridiculous \"colorful\" frame they're using during the contestant intros at the top of the show. The thing screams \"I was playing around with the software for a few hours, and this came out, what the hell, let's use it.\" I felt like I had stumbled across your average Geocities web page.

Second is the color scheme for the \"Jeopardy!\", \"Double Jeopardy!\", \"Final Jeopardy!\", and \"Daily Double\" screens. Black letters on dark, murky colors, with little radar blips zipping by randomly. It just doesn't make sense to me to put that color scheme, which I find depressing and terribly ugly, on the screens that remind your viewers of the name of the show and its most dramatic moments.

Oh, and just to say something positive, I think they made some minor modifications to the contestant podiums which made it easier (at least for me) to immediately see who had just signaled.

Funny, none of this bothered me. I kinda liked it, actually. Put a little more vibrancy into the whole mix. I noticed Alex's contestant summary cards had the same graphics on the back as well.

I actually liked it- mainly because it makes the contestant intro a little more special. (especially, because the old walk-ins were eliminated.) I will say this...as much as I like it, it doesn't fit. The titles are more for what Jeopardy! used to be- a serious quizzer.

I found nothing dramaticly different. Sure the Show open is a little different and they tinkered with the set a little, but I didn't notice anything so different that it took away from my enjoyment of he program. Still looked pretty good to me.

i really miss the old set. before the sushi bar. with the grids, the flashing JEOPARDY! lights, and the black marble floor. however, the new stuff doesn't disappoint me so much that i'll stop watching.

I agree with John -- the show isn't any worse right now than it was at the end of July.  The new graphics do look bad, though.

I actually don't mind the graphics scheme overall.  I like the aurora borealis effect they have going.

What I can't stand is that \"tram car\" of a whatever-it-is that runs across the top of the title in all the graphics.  It looks less like a shooting star than a train car crossing the Jeopardy platform, and looks really awkward, especially in the category reveal.  If they could at least get some uniformity with that, I could live with it.

Sorry. Just Doesn't Bother Me. I'm watching Jeopardy to see Jeopardy played, and little things like a graphic tweak just aren't gonna bug me.

What DOES bug me about the category reveal, is the fact that it's so obviously totally canned. I realize WHY they do this - once they render the animation it takes them seconds to put it together, and it saves them a pretty sweeping fast camera move and refocus. (If they cross-shoot with three cameras like I think they do, then blocking that sequence is tight for someone without it, but cake-easy with it. Even then, it's clear they have a jib camera in there, but I dunno if it has angle to get the shot just right without blocking out the camera shooting the board.) I dunno. I'm sure Joe Average doesn't even notice it.

I don't like the Final Jeopardy! graphic either.

Actually, I like it. At least its better than the previous package. Oh, and the catagory reveal w/ the \"shooting star\" doesn't bug me except that I'd like it if the star ran across the J! logo before every catagory reveal.

Do I really not have anything better to do with my time than to analyse J!?

Wow.

Well, since I started this topic, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game at all, just my aesthetic sense. And it probably only bothered me because I was specifically examining it since it was new.

I thought it might have had something to do with the setup of the current set--they started canning the category pans a week or two after that set debuted.

It did lead to a hilarious (to me) moment a few months back, that I forgot to share with anyone: one of the categories was something like \"On The Nickel\", but the pan showed it to be \"On The Nickle\". Never had I dreamed I would see that particular (annoying) spelling error on Jeopardy!

You do realize the average TV viewer can't spell \"cat\", right?

According to M-W, \"nickle\" is an appropriate, though seemingly unpopular, alternative spelling.

I finally saw the new show open and the new graphics made it appear the contestants were joining us from heaven.

It was much better when they just walked out. I still miss the old opening when we'd hear the audience murmur, then suddenly hush. Now that's television.

Here's an idea. Sometime, to celebrate an anniversary or something, they should have what baseball teams call \"turn back the clock\" week. They should build a replica of Art Fleming's set and play on that, with flip cards and pen-and-paper Final Jeopardy and old SFX and everything. Maybe the contestants and Alex even dress the part. They could even score $10, $20 and such, then just multiply everything by 20 at the end so the players aren't cheated.
